Carl Weller, age 31, a farm hand, working for Frank Underwood who lives a mile and a half east of New Maysville, was killed at near 4:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a bolt of lightning. Well had been rolling corn in a field near the Underwood farm and had unhitched and was driving his team toward the barn when struck. The team went on to the barn and Mr. Underwood, who was sitting on his porch seeing the team come in along went to look for Weller. When he reached his body which was lying about 100’ from the barn the clothing was afire. Coroner Jacob McCurry was called. The young man leaves a father and mother but was not married. The funeral will be held at New Maysville but the arrangements have not yet been completed. – kbz
